The manual describes the application of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for OCD via the Four-Phase Worry Hill Treatment Protocol.  The Worry Hill Protocol, developed by Dr. Wagner, is a developmentally sensitive protocol designed to be appealing and user-friendly for the child, parent and therapist, and to be flexible and feasible for practitioners in primarily clinical settings.  This manual completes the only integrated set of books on the treatment of childhood OCD for children, parents and therapists.

The implementation of each phase in treatment is discussed in depth:

Phase I: Biopsychosocial Assessment and Treatment Plan focuses on systematic, accurate and skillful assessment geared towards the recovery of the whole child, not just from OCD.

Phase II: Building Treatment Readiness involves planned and active preparation for treatment. Although most children wish to be rid of OCD, they need to be able to channel the desire to get well into the action to get well, which involves more than simple "motivation."  This step is crucial to participation and compliance, but is often underestimated and bypassed, resulting in premature start of treatment and subsequent treatment failure.

Phase III: The RIDE (Rename, Insist, Defy, Enjoy) entails putting Exposure and Ritual Prevention (ERP) into action in child-friendly fashion.

Phase IV: After the RIDE is geared towards recovery of the whole child in his environmental context.  It wraps up ERP and focuses on maintenance of gains, long-term recovery, and an active action plan for relapse prevention.
